Graffiti: 1: Inscriptions or drawings scribbled, scratched or sprayed on a surface, originally as inscribed on ancient walls - Australian Oxford Dictionary ©2000 2: Placing marks with aerosol paint [usually] on a surface without permission of the owner. 3: Vandalism by young thugs.

At times some of all of the above can be true. Inscriptions graff is, the legal position is a fact, and sometimes bad graff is put up in inappropriate places by people who couldn't care. Probably the same that cap others for reasons of cru politics. Graff is art. It is an expression of the writers' views and commentary on the condition of life in modern times.

Picasso was a scribbler, a scrawler and not instantly recognized. Poor Vincent suffered and suicided yet gave the world paintings that can light up your life and inspire you to higher things. Art. You can try to intellectualize the phenomenon in order to destroy it but you will not succeed. A legitimate artform will survive oppression and suppression to take its place in the history of Art. Graff will survive.

I've noticed graff for a long time being a visual person, but haven't taken a deeper interest in it until recently. I am rapt by what I see on the web from all across the planet and by what I am seeing when we go out on day shoots around Brisbane. Milton Station is a knockout and must be seen by tens of thousands of commuters every year. It is now unfortunately beginning to fade.

The hope of GraffOnline is to document graffiti. Crew politics aren't welcome. pissing on pieces won't remove them. History is a story from woe to go. If you piece you may end up here. You will always be given credit for your work if it is obvious. If you don't see it, tell me and I will edit that page to credit you and your crew. Taking photos, scanning and coding, plus a job to pay for it all takes a lot of time. Crediting is high on policy but in reality I can't read most of the pieces I snap and rely on others who can read the piece or know the piece well. If you want credit let me know.

Most importantly, if you know of a place or a piece, please let us know let us know so we can get there and get it here.

Brisbane was the foundation of of graffiti web for us. Brisgraff started last year and now features about 8000 images. The bombing of Milton Tennis and Squash Centre has been a scene to see. I've been there four times now [the last was a video shoot, although a few shots are at the very end of the squash centre section (page 105 on I think)] and I am mightily impressed by what gets done there. Paddington and East Brisbane Skate parks are truly wonderful, showing Kasino in all his glory. See Kasino also at Newmarket, Montague Road West End and other sites across the city.

Kasino really is a cut above. I love his railway track at East Brisbane, the way it curves and disappears into the tunnel. I love his railway track at Paddington, Warhol like in framing and presentation. Kasino's work is cool. Way cool.

Checkout ICP Windsor for some awsome stuff. See Virginia State School for a wicked legal. Sparks Hill is always changing so look this one up for updates.

Moorooka Skate Park Legal Put-up occurred 24 Feb from 6:30 till around 10. Many pieces were created. Great video was taken and will eventually appear on Brisgraff. Pictures were also taken and can be viewed at Moorooka Skate Park.

June 20, 2001. Recently went to Canberra and soon you will be able to see the results of that on GraffOnline.com. Went to the City, Woden Drains, Weston Skate Park, and Tuggeranong Skate Park. Should be up by end of June 2001. There'll also be a few pics from Sazuka, Japan.

August 2004. Went to Melbourne Australia and snapped almost 1000 flix from from the Hurstbridge, Werribee and Williamstown lines as well as from South Yarra, Prahan, Windsor, Richmond, Fitzroy and the City. These will be available in a month or so when we update again.
